All of Varian’s furniture is built to order in San Francisco, California. We source all of our material from certified sustainable forests throughout the USA. We believe that the most environmentally responsible object is well crafted from sustainable materials so that you only have to buy it once. With proper care and maintenance over time, Varian’s furniture will serve you and your family for many, many years.

Material

We utilize only the highest quality wood for your furniture. Every piece we produce is made from hand-selected boards chosen for color, grain and stability.

Craftsmanship

Varian combines time honored and tested traditional joinery techniques such as dovetails and mortise and tenons with advanced computer aided production methods such as CNC milling and laser cutting. Wood is a “living” material that responds to changes in temperature and humidity by expanding and contracting. Like any good piece of furniture, ours is made to accommodate this movement while remaining strong and beautiful.

Product Care

Like all products, proper care and diligence is required to ensure lasting, unblemished beauty. We consider the guidelines below to be of utmost importance.

Build up of dust can cause discoloration and scratching over time. Try to prevent heavy dust build up on your furniture.

Always use a clean, soft cotton cloth to clean your furniture. If necessary, you can use lukewarm water with a slightly diluted soap.

Standing water is very bad for your finish, do not allow spills or rings from glasses to sit on your surfaces. Always use coasters to protect your furniture.

Direct UV rays from sunlight can have an adverse affect on the color and beauty of your wood furniture. Try to avoid sustained direct sunlight by using shades or blinds.

Temperature and humidity. Wood expands and contracts depending on temperature and humidity. Keeping your furniture as “comfortable” as you would be is a good rule of thumb. In the dry winter months, keeping a humidifier in your space to maintain a 50% moisture level will prevent slight cracks or fissures from extreme contraction of the wood.
